The Metropolitan School District of Steuben County is situated
in the rolling terrain of the northeastern corner of Indiana,
just minutes away from Michigan to the north and Ohio to the
east. Steuben County boasts 100 lakes that dot the countryside
around the county seat of Angola. Lake James, the second largest
natural lake in the state, is only five miles from the city.
Tri-State University, located in Angola, provides opportunities
for educational growth as well as cultural and athletic activities.
Steuben County provides something for everyone, whether
it is living in a pastoral setting; residing in a small but
progressive community within minutes of the fast growing urban
city of Fort Wayne; or enjoying life on one of the many lakes
that provide both summer and winter recreational opportunities.
If you enjoy the outdoors, Pokagon State Park provides a multitude
of activities. Because two main Midwest arteries pass through
Steuben County, access to Chicago, Detroit, Toledo, or Indianapolis
can be reached within a few short hours. This makes readily
available some of the finest restaurants, theaters, sports
activities, and other entertainment.
Our public school system offers a well-rounded academic and
tech-prep curriculum for all students from kindergarten through
12th grade. In addition to the regular curriculum, special
programs for the academically and intellectually talented
and the vocationally motivated students are available. The
M.S.D. of Steuben County is a member of the special education
cooperative that provides for the special needs of students
with various disabilities. In addition, an alternative education
program is provided for the high school student who has exited
school prior to completing requirements. This is provided
through the Educational Opportunity Center, which is operated
by our District for the entire county. It is our belief that
all students, regardless of academic competency, deserve the
best opportunities possible to develop to their full potential.
Our schools offer something for every student. We work hard
to identify each student’s strengths and weaknesses
and devise programs to meet their needs. We believe that if
our community, state, and nation are to progress, we must
provide our future workforce with a new level of knowledge.
Our schools have an obligation to prepare students to meet
the technological challenges of the future. We continually
seek input from our parents, our patrons, and our business
and industrial community to meet these ends.
The M.S.D. of Steuben County offers 20 athletic activities
for boys and girls as well as an array of extra-curricular
activities and programs. From basketball to wrestling, from
music to drama, numerous programs are available for all students.
We believe athletic and extracurricular programs are necessary
to help students develop not only academically, but physically
and aesthetically as well.
Guidance and counseling services are provided for students
at each of the six schools. After school child care is offered
for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. In addition,
health and social services are available to all students.
