    About

    Programs and Staff

The Metropolitan School District of Steuben County is a progressive district. Committed to excellence, our schools have received local, state, and national recognition for achievement.  All of our schools are accredited through AdvancED focusing on continuous improvement. Our current school district enrolment is 2,737 students in grades K-12. We are a G Suite for Education District, and we are 1:1 with Chromebooks at all grade levels. Our district employs 198 certified and 212 classified staff to instruct and serve our students.

Our public school system offers a well-rounded academic and technical curriculum for all students from kindergarten through 12th grade. In addition to the regular curriculum, special programs for the academically and intellectually talented and the vocationally motivated students are available. The high school offers many dual credit options on and off campus. The MSD of Steuben County is a member of the Northeastern Indiana Special Education Cooperative that provides for the special needs of students with various disabilities. The district is a partner with Impact Institute, providing courses for students who will select careers in technical fields. The Educational Opportunity Center is an alternative education program provided for high school students who need an unconventional setting to complete graduation requirements.

Please visit our school sites and the Academics link for more details on programming, curriculum, and assessment practices.

The M.S.D. of Steuben County offers athletic activities for boys and girls as well as extra-curricular activities and programs. From basketball to wrestling, from music to drama, numerous programs are available for all students. We believe athletic and extracurricular programs are necessary to help students develop  academically, physically, and socially.

Guidance and counseling services are provided for students at each of the six schools. After school child care is offered for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. In addition, health and social services are available to all students.

Our teachers and instructional assistants meet all requirements for Indiana teacher licensure and ESSA.  In compliance with Title I Part A, this notification is to inform you that you may request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher or the professional qualifications of any paraprofessional that may provide educational services for your child. Supt. Message

    Dear Parents, Community, and Students:

The MSD of Steuben County School Board and our entire employee team welcome you to a school year filled with excitement and anticipation of great things to happen.

Over the past several years our goal has been to prepare students to not only live in today’s 21st century but to be leaders and great contributors in a world that is changing faster than at any time in history. We are committed to ensuring our education is academically challenging and inspires our students to be fully engaged learners, skilled collaborators, and critical thinkers as they work toward academic excellence.  We understand this fall as 2500 students enter our school doors each one of them is uniquely different, and as such we are prepared to work with each child to ensure we enhance their ability to reach their maximum success.  Our programs are diverse, from a new Montessori preschool this year to multiple college-level math and science courses at our high school, and many of our students also have the benefit of participating in our vocational programming through the IMPACT Institute.  Our performing arts and music programs have won state awards, and our athletic teams have historically been some of the best in the state.  Yes, we have a proud tradition in academics and extra-curricular programs as we educate the whole child!

At the MSD of Steuben County, we understand excellence in education is a journey, not just a destination.  It is a journey we are fully committed to, as our students and community deserve no less.  We have a rich history of success because of our exceptional staff, committed parents, and supportive community.  It is without reservation that we also know the first and best teachers for all children are their parents.  I encourage every parent to remain focused with their students on their homework, to visit our wonderful school sites, to encourage your children to participate in school activities, and to inspire them to do their very best.  In unison with you, our parents and our community, we will continue to make the MSD of Steuben County a very special place to learn, grow, and promote success for all students.
