Why do I need a Safe Hiring Solutions and Indiana Department of Child Services index and what is the cost?

As of July 1, 2017, Amended Indiana Code 20-26-5-10 and Indiana Code 20-26-5-11 require all school corporation employees to obtain an expanded criminal history; an expanded child protection index; and a check for suspended or revoked license for certificated employees all prior to employment. MSD has adopted Safe Hiring Solutions as our authorized vendor since they provide all required components noted in Indiana Code 20-26-2-1.5 and Indiana Code 20-26-2-1.3.

The applicant is responsible for the cost of the expanded criminal history and expanded child protection index. You will need to order the report online using a credit card with Safe Hiring Solutions. The cost is approximately $30 depending on the state and counties of residence. There is an estimate option to use before you pay for your background. The information is valid for five years.

Once you have ordered the Safe Hiring Solutions report you will receive two emails from the Indiana Department of Child Services to complete their application. The emails will come from KidTraks@dcs.in.gov and most likely will go to your spam. The IDCS application expires 20 days from the date of the email.
