Did you know - “Groundhog” is the common name for the ground squirrel? This animal also goes by many other names including woodchuck, marmot, and land beaver. Whatever the name, stories about this small creature predicting the weather have been around for generations. Tradition has it that if the groundhog sees his shadow, he will run back to his hole and we are in for another 6 weeks of winter. If he does not then warmer weather is on its way.
This morning, the groundhog did not see his shadow, predicting an early spring. We know our students will enjoy more days to play outside on the new equipment on some of our playgrounds.
