The lights shimmered brightly at Glendarin last night as community members gathered to celebrate the Angola Area Chamber of Commerce's 12th Annual Ebbie Awards. MSDSC was proud to have three outstanding teachers nominated for Educator of the Year: Mr. Bob Budak, 6th-grade science teacher at AMS; Josie Gilbert, EL teacher at Carlin Park; and Allison Miller, Kindergarten teacher at Hendry Park. We are thrilled to announce that Allison Miller took home the trophy! Her unwavering dedication to her students is evident in everything she does.

The parking lot had a unique look Tuesday as several students participated in the long-standing AHS tradition of "Drive Your Tractor to School Day." For over 15 years, this fun and memorable event has brought a bit of rural charm to campus. Student Tysen shared that his favorite part was “washing the tractors and then being able to drive in together with my brother and friend.” His crew made the 6-mile journey to school in about 20 minutes, enjoying a beautiful morning that made this year’s event especially memorable.

The AHS Media Center was buzzing with activity yesterday as the CTE Advisory Committee held its final meeting of the year. Comprising both AHS CTE teachers and local community members, the committee discussed key initiatives, including community partnerships to support the new high school requirements. The meeting wrapped up with small group sessions, where students had the opportunity to connect with business owners and educators to explore careers of interest.

Angola Highs school students enrolled in the Impact Institute competed in the SkillsUSA Championships. This is the premier showcase of America’s most highly skilled career and technical education students. The competitions of the SkillsUSA Championships are created and judged by industry to ensure that students are learning the real-world skills employers demand from entry-level professionals.

Students in Ms. Hartman's class at Ryan Park have spent the past few weeks learning about life cycles while caring for chicken eggs. The chicks have finally arrived, and now the students have the unique opportunity to touch or hold these little creatures—an experience many would never have had otherwise.

Our 7th Graders had an exciting opportunity today to explore careers in the medical field! A big thank you to Cameron Hospital for generously sharing your time, knowledge, and incredible demonstrations. It was a fun and inspiring experience for our students—who knows, we may have some future doctors, nurses, or technicians in the making!

Yesterday, AHS Juniors and Seniors participated in a powerful and educational event: a staged mock crash organized as part of the "Choice Matters" program. This impactful demonstration, held every two years, aligns with prom preparations to highlight the dangers of drinking and driving. As prom and graduation celebrations approach, the issue of alcohol-related accidents becomes even more pressing. Statistics show that approximately 20% of teen driving accidents involve alcohol, with one-third of those occurring in the critical months of April, May, and June. A special thank you SRO Bill Lanoue organizing it and to the following organizations for their crucial support in making this event possible: Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Angola City Police Department, Indiana State Police, Steuben County EMS, Angola Fire Department, Steuben County Coroner's Office, Steuben County EMA, Bill’s Professional Towing, Weicht Funeral Home, and volunteers Chad Zerkle and Garry Osborn.
