MSDSC congratulates Mr. Steve Lantz on being named the IIAAA District 2 Athletic Director of the Year for 2024! This recognition comes with an opportunity to attend a conference in March, where the State Award winner will be announced.
Mr. Lantz began his career as a teacher at AMS in 2005 before transitioning to Vice Principal/Athletic Director at AMS for two years. In 2019, he moved to AHS fulfilling his dream of being a High School Athletic Director.
Upon receiving the award, Mr. Travis Heavin, Principal of AHS, expressed his pride in having Mr. Lantz at the high school. “He genuinely cares about the students and the community. Lantz does many things behind the scenes and makes it all look easy,” Heavin said.
The athletic program is a vast landscape encompassing 22 sports each year. Mr. Lantz works tirelessly to manage not only the sports but also the details that come with them, from replacing light bulbs to handling weather cancellations. He credits his success to the amazing team around him, including coaches, the grounds crew, the IT department, and transportation staff. He is especially grateful for his secretary, Kim Wilson, and student aide, Jaxon Brown.
Mr. Lantz also appreciates the support from OPS, which has provided trainers for the past six years. Community backing plays a vital role in the athletic program’s success, whether through support for fundraisers or attending games to cheer on our athletes. Mr. Lantz feels fortunate to have such a dedicated community behind him and the programs.
Throughout his tenure as Athletic Director, one of Mr. Lantz’s primary goals has been to secure updated facilities. While he is close to achieving this, he continues to work on plans for additional spaces to ensure all teams have access to safe and clean environments for practice and competition. His vision is to provide the best resources and facilities, making the community proud.
Mr. Lantz measures his success not by personal achievements but by witnessing the growth of students, fostering team spirit, and seeing them enjoy the sports they play. “When you surround yourself with people who share the same vision and can execute that vision, it makes the job fulfilling. A strong team makes everything manageable,” he shared.
Lastly, Mr. Lantz acknowledges that he couldn’t do this job without the unwavering support of his wife, Leslie, and his family.
Our school staff was treated to free coffee, Tea, Juice, and delicious drinks this week! A big thank you to Travelin' Tom's Coffee of 101 Lakes for supplying the drinks!

Parent Teacher Conferences this week!
This morning, all MSD teachers gathered at AHS for an inspiring professional development day. The event began with a keynote address from Cristi Parsons, who emphasized the importance of "embracing high levels of learning for all students as our core mission and fundamental responsibility. Additionally, equip staff with the tools necessary for continuous improvement in instruction and learning. Following her speech, teachers and staff engaged in break-out sessions, diving deeper into this theme throughout the day.

In the 6th grade science lab of Angola Middle School, you’ll find Jeanne Ice, a dedicated teacher who has spent the last 22 years inspiring her students. With her enthusiasm for learning, Jeanne brings science to life through engaging experiments like the famous egg drop. Jeanne’s path to education was a blend of chance and family influence she looked at other avenues but she received the opportunity to work with middle schools and their eagerness to learn and explore solidified her path to be a part of that adventure.
Outside of her teaching, Jeanne treasures the time she spends with her grandbabies.. She enjoys a variety of hobbies that keep her active, including swimming, horseback riding, and fishing in her bass boat across local lakes. When she’s not out on the water, you might find her with a good book, often lost in tales that weave adventure and romance.
Whether it is in the classroom, coaching (which she did for 10 years) or at home, Jeanne’s inspirational quote “Fairness is not everyone getting the same; it’s getting what they need.” encourages growth in her students, team, and family. She also inspires her students by continuing to learn. She recently participated in SCI-OP training and believes what she learned will make her a better teacher.
Among her many accomplishments, winning the prestigious Lily Grant stands out as a proud milestone in her career. She is currently working on a proposition she calls “Fearless 50” She aims to conquer her fears -whether it’s flying snorkeling, or traveling to a different country. She plans on facing all these fears on a trip to Australia.
As she reflects on her journey, Jeanine Ice continues to be passionate and inspire her students. We are proud she is a part of the MSDSC community.
